By the end of the day when all the results were in, the Mustangs still earned the three seed. They tied for third place with Connecticut and Memphis at 12-6, but took the third seed by virtue of their 3-1 record in the head to head competition with the other two.

In front of their first sellout crowd since Nov. 20, 2001, the SMU Mustangs christened the newly renovated Moody Coliseum with an enthusiastic 74-65 win over the 17/15 ranked UConn Huskies. The much anticipated game sold out December 19th and the 7,166 fans in attendance got their monies worth on the court and around the facility that now includes expanded concourses with raised ceilings, private suites as well as new video and scoreboards.
The renovation and expansion of Moody Coliseum provides many new and improved features, including a renovated main entry lobby, expanded concourses with raised ceilings, club seats, loge boxes, private suites, videoboards, scoreboards, group suites, new event space, offices, team locker rooms and meeting space. The men’s basketball game is the first of a doubleheader as the Mustangs return to Moody Coliseum. The women’s basketball team hosts USF at 3:30 p.m.
