Dallas Cowboys’ roster cuts

The Dallas Cowboys roster cuts include Raymond Radway but not much else

By Matthew Postins

The Dallas Cowboys made their cuts on Monday to get down to the mandatory 75 players before Wednesday’s final preseason game against Miami. Did the cuts impact position battles for the final roster? Find out below.

Wide receiver: The Cowboys cut Raymond Radway and David Little. The Cowboys released Donavon Kemp and then moved him to injured reserve. Kemp tore his ACL.

Impact: It’s a bad luck for Radway, who was nearly on the team last year before he tore his ACL. He blended into the crowd this summer and never broke out. Kemp will now follow Radway’s path toward a possible roster spot in 2013. The Cowboys have nine wide receivers now and, theoretically, three spots are up for grabs in Wednesday’s preseason game.

Running back: The Cowboys cut Javarris Williams.

Impact: None. Williams wasn’t considered a viable option for the 53-man roster.

Offensive line: The Cowboys cut Levy Adcock and Tyrone Novikoff. The Cowboys moved Kevin Kowalski to the physically unable to perform list.

Impact: The release of Adcock and Novikoff have no impact. Moving Kowalski to PUP has a bit of an impact, since he cannot come back to the team before Week 7. Plus, it makes the Cowboys thinner at center, where starter Phil Costa is still nursing an injury. Theoretically, your starting center on opening night could be Bill Nagy.

Tight end: The Cowboys released Harry Flaherty.

Impact: None. Tight end is locked down with Jason Witten, John Phillips and James Hanna.

Linebacker: The Cowboys waived Caleb McSurdy and then moved him to injured reserve.

Impact: If the Cowboys didn’t think he had a future, they would have just offered him an injury settlement and send McSurdy on his way. At least being on IR gives him a chance to make the team in 2013.

Cornerback: The Cowboys cut C.J. Wilson.

Impact: None. Wilson really didn’t separate himself during Saturday night’s game. The Cowboys now have eight corners, and I think they’ll have to keep at least five, maybe six, depending on Mike Jenkins’ health.

Kicker: The Cowboys cut Delbert Alvarado.

Impact: None. The Cowboys are set at kicker and punter.

Long Snapper: The Cowboys released Charley Hughlett.

Impact: None. L.P. Ladouceur wasn’t in danger of losing his job.
