    I don’t claim to know the nuances of the goal tending rules. However, irrespective of the view from the camera above the basket, I believe there is serious doubt the shot would have hit the rim, which seems to be the basis that the call was correct.

    Today’s win improved SMU’s record to 22-6 overall and 11-4 in American Athletic Conference play. Connecticut fell to 21-6 and 9-5. The Ponies fell out of the AP Top 25 last week after losing to Temple last Sunday. This win following Wednesday’s drubbing of Houston probably puts SMU back in next week.

    In front of their first sellout crowd since Nov. 20, 2001, the SMU Mustangs christened the newly renovated Moody Coliseum with an enthusiastic 74-65 win over the 17/15 ranked UConn Huskies. The much anticipated game sold out December 19th and the 7,166 fans in attendance got their monies worth on the court and around the facility that now includes expanded concourses with raised ceilings, private suites as well as new video and scoreboards.

    The renovation and expansion of Moody Coliseum provides many new and improved features, including a renovated main entry lobby, expanded concourses with raised ceilings, club seats, loge boxes, private suites, videoboards, scoreboards, group suites, new event space, offices, team locker rooms and meeting space. The men’s basketball game is the first of a doubleheader as the Mustangs return to Moody Coliseum. The women’s basketball team hosts USF at 3:30 p.m.
