Houston Looks to Earn BCS Birth

The undefeated and 8^th ranked Houston Cougars (12-0) will roll into the Conference USA Championship Game to butt heads with the 24^th ranked Golden Eagles of Southern Mississippi (10-2), and earn a spot in a BCS bowl game. The Cougars look as unbeatable as their record suggests after they walloped Tulsa 48-16 to earn their spot in the title game. Houston is led by quarterback Case Keenum, who has passed for a brilliant 4,726 yards this season. What is even more amazing is the fact that he has thrown for 43 touchdowns against a mere three interceptions. Keenum completes over 73% of his passes and throws for almost 394 yards per game. The Coog’s average scoring 52.7 points per game and outscore their opponents by almost 32 points a contest. Houston is led on defense by linebackers Marcus McGraw who has been credited with 120 tackles, and Sammy Brown who has 12.5 sacks and 26 tackles for a loss.

Southern Miss punched their ticket to the title game by making fun of Memphis 44-7 last week. Quarterback Austin Davis leads the Golden Eagle offensive attack with 26 TD passes of his own. The Golden Eagles average a tick below 37 points a game. The Eagles have used a bevy of running backs this season most recently Desmond Johnson, who rushed for 103 yards on 11 carries against the Tigers. The Golden Eagle defense will make things tough for Houston as they forced three turnovers and scored two touchdowns last week against Memphis.
